Weight Loss Progress – Week 22

I started this year weighing 220.0 pounds (15 stone 10.0 pounds, 99.8 kg). Last week, I weighed 205.1 pounds (14 stone 9.1 pounds, 93.0 kg). This week again – no change! Total weight loss so far is 14.9 pounds or 6.8 kg (17.6 pounds, 1 stone 3.6 pounds, or 8.0 kg since Christmas). My original waist measurement was 45″, last week it was 39.0″ and this week it remains the same. That is a total loss so far of 6.0″ (all rounded to nearest half inch).

Exercise for week: 3 hours of easy (flat) mountain biking, a couple of hilly strolls and a strenuous 5 hour mountain bike ride with a lot of hills, some steep.

Weight gain due to alcohol intake only just cancelled out at the end of the week.

Here is the current OJ-ometer.

Verdict on week – well, I didn’t lose any weight, but I did at least offset my lads’ weekend. I did enough to allow me a big treat meal at the local Greek restaurant.

The next two weekends have very long road rides planned for them. I mustn’t use those as an excuse to eat and drink even more.

I’m not making any progress now, but it isn’t what people call a weight loss ‘plateau’ – I know exactly why the weight loss has stopped. I got to the point where I wasn’t embarrassed by my size any more. I don’t like being this big, but I can put up with it and deep-down psychologically, I think I gave myself permission to stay this size and started drinking more. What I really need to do is to change my attitude towards alcohol. I’ve gone for total abstinence before, but it makes me feel isolated from a lot of the people I know who like a drink now and then. I need to be like them – not drinking most nights, and then just enjoying it in moderation at other times. The single biggest thing I could do is to get a steady income again. Financial pressures on me really don’t help me maintain a healthy lifestyle.
