Weight Loss Progress – Week 1

There may be one or two weekends over the next 6 months when I don’t have access to a computer and/or an internet connection, but apart from those times, I’m going to try to post a weight loss progress report every Sunday evening.

My scales only weigh to the nearest pound and are not necessarily accurate, but I’ll stick to using them so I’m always comparing like with like. I’m weighing myself every day, and I’ll take the average of the 7 values at the end of each week. The reason for doing that is to filter out the daily fluctuations in weight which so upset most people who are trying to slim. I know damn well that my weight goes up and down day by day – it’s commonsense. Weigh yourself, then weigh yourself again after drinking a large glass of water – there’s a pound extra for you straight away! I’ll calculate and display weights to one decimal place. They won’t be that accurate, but there is no point in introducing even more errors by rounding to the nearest pound or kg.

I know you’ve all** been waiting with bated breath, so here’s this week’s report…

I started this lifestyle change weighing 220.0 pounds (15 stone 10.0 pounds, 99.8 kg). I now weigh 218.5 pounds (15 stone 8.5 pounds, 99.1 kg). That’s a loss of 1.5 pounds, or 0.7 kg. I’m quite happy with that loss at this time of year. I’m aiming for closer to 2.0 pounds or 0.9 kg per week, but this is mid-winter so I’ve not been doing as much cycling as I’d normally do. My waist measurement is still about 45″.

(Yes – it’s the same photo that I posted 3 days ago – I don’t think that it is worth taking another one so soon afterwards)

** That’s a bit of a tongue-in-cheek remark. 😉 I know from my server logs that hardly anybody has found the blog yet. Most of my visitors so far are friends and family, and they know how I’m doing anyway because I talk to them regularly.

It’s a bit of a strange feeling writing these posts, knowing that my intended audience hasn’t arrived yet. That’s okay though – “If you build it, they will come!”. Welcome, visitors from the future trawling through my old posts – I knew you’d get here one day!

I’m looking on these early posts as a rehearsal for the ‘real thing’ to come later. I haven’t found my style yet, and what I’ve written so far is pretty boring. It doesn’t matter, I’ll get better with practice.
