S.A.D. Alert – the End of British Summer Time!

This is where the hard work really starts…

The clocks went back an hour this morning which means it is now getting dark here before 5 pm and sunset will just continue getting earlier and earlier until close to Christmas. I really struggle with this time of year. The local hillsides have been looking lovely for the past couple of weeks as the leaves turned brown but that beauty will soon be but a distant memory. Cold weather, bare trees, murky grey skies, and dull light – aaaaaaaaargh; is it any wonder that I (and many others) suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.)!

I’ll have to make an effort to get out in the mornings whenever I can. So often I go into a 4 or 5 month autumn/winter slump which makes me pile back on any weight I’d lost in the preceding spring and summer. It’s why I never really make much progress with my fitness from year to year.

If, however, I can somehow stay positive and keep exercising regularly, I could get to New Year 2010 in better shape than any year since 2001 when I was slimmer and fitter than ever before. Watch this space…

I take it this would get your vote !

  2. Yes it would! (In case the link dies on us in the future – it’s a proposal to keep the UK on what is now British Summer Time the whole year round.) I’d quite happily put up with an extra hour of darkness on winter mornings for an extra hour of daylight later on when I’d do more with it.
