Road Ride – a Local Loop

I’ve pinched the back wheel off my Basso for now, and put my Cannondale‘s 10-speed cassette on it. It means that I have a bike to ride while I’m servicing the Basso. When that work is complete, I’ll put the Basso’s new 9-speed cassette on the wheel and move it back to the Basso, leaving my Cannondale out of action until I can get the bearings sorted out.

We had thunderstorms this morning, but conditions improved this afternoon. I wanted to get out for a while, and give the wheel a good check to make sure that it was okay for a longer ride at the weekend.

I did one of my favourite local loops, one I’ve reported doing before:

Hebden Bridge, Pecket Well, Old Town, Midgley, Mytholmroyd, Cragg Vale, Blackstone Edge, Blue Ball Lane, Hubberton Green, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge.

Conditions were windy, but I enjoyed the ride. 23.6 miles and 2,200 ft of West Yorkshire hills. Oh, and the bike behaved itself – it felt good to ride and I could barely tell the difference between the original Proton wheel, and the Basso’s wheel which has a Mavic Open Pro rim, double-butted spokes and a decent Campagnolo hub.
