A Wet Walk in Waterproof Hiking Shoes

There are times when owning a pair of waterproof hiking shoes would come in handy and there are times when it wouldn’t. Sleeping is an example of when you wouldn’t be too concerned about your shoes, unless you were sleep-walking of course! Walking in rainy conditions is an example of when you might well consider [...]

Steep Yorkshire Roads

Well, yes, this is yet another of those “I got sweaty power-walking up the hill to Heptonstall” posts but I’m going to make it more interesting for you this time. No, I’m not going to tell you where you can buy a cheap iPad or iPhone. I’m not even going to tell you how to [...]

Sizzling Strides – Heptonstall Lunch

Another lunch date with Lisa in Heptonstall… I decided to walk up the Buttress for a change, and then up the road rather than through the woods. I wasn’t going to walk quite as quickly as I normally do, but I spotted a man pushing a bike up the hill and decided that I’d see [...]

Road Ride – Blackstone Edge, Long Causeway

Ardent Ambulation – Heptonstall Quarry (Again!)

I… wait for rain to stop, charge up the hill, arrive at cafe just in time, observe that rain is falling again, drink coffee, see rain stop and sun start shining, walk back down hill via quarry, visit shops, get home just as rain starts again – excellent timing!

Power Walk – Heptonstall and The Buttress

Short but sweet – (the walk and this report!) – charged up the hill to meet Lisa, lunch in the cafe, back down the road, then down The Buttress into town to do my food shopping for the week.

Road Ride – Trying Out My Mavic Aksium Wheels

My Basso has been out of action with worn wheel bearings and the nuts that I needed to undo to service the hub were rusted up. I couldn’t get them undone with my cheap flexy cone spanners so it looked as though I’d have to take the wheels to my local bike shop to get [...]
